SO this weekend i went on my first drum corps international your with platinum. After lots and lots of fun sunburn running and fixing drill and music and performing shows, we ended up scoring a 60.85 on sunday night, a really great score considering we were first year with only 31 people (LAWL!)
there was lots of surrounding the corps concerning a staff member and our exec. dir. but other than that and scoring low the first two night, it was insanely fun.
I saw new york for the first time, definitely a magical experience. The traffic is no doubt all that its cut out to be but when you have as fun of a driver in the van as we did mixed with an interesting combination of sordid perverted and burnt humor, its worth the trip.
we the drumline along with a few staff members enjoyed spending time calling one staff member who is inadvertently a total ass "douche bag" throughout the whole weekend. He is definitely a know it all arrogant pompous ass, but we didnt let it slide, no worries. It basically started all in all when we were in york for the first time. he was trying to give us driving advice when a 60+ year old man driving a taxi van counting his money on the steering wheel cut him off. According to travis, "Dayum cuzzz, you jus got shat on, you jus embaressed platinum in new york mannnn." classic stuff.
Another part i enjoyed was the constant use of the terms "thas sum baby back," "Oh sh&*, the mutha fu&*^& fuzz is out," "Platinum, B&*^$!" and most of all, "PLATOWWW!!!!"
oh, and last but not least, the multiple signs we stole from different restuarants that refused to serve us after 11. HAHA.
The second housing site was really cool. and at the same time really weird. There was an oldschool fallout shelter in one of the buildings that i wanted to go see from the 1950s during the cold war era and what not, and also had for showers (i kid you not) a big ass room with two pillars in them. But i found out quick that its not so awkward if there arent any homos in the room. no offence to my heteroflexible friends.
long story short, it was without a doubt the funnest, funniest, and probably painful and tiring trip ive ever been on. But hey, getting lost several times and ending up taking 15+ hoursto get back home on a 9 hour trip is sometimes worth it just for the laughs.
